The meeting of the NGOs working on electoral issues with the President of Georgia

The President of Georgia Giorgi Margvelashvili met the representatives of about fifteen NGOs working on electoral issues. The meeting was attended by the CDD chairperson – Ketevan Chachava.

 

Participants of the meeting discussed electoral environment and provided respective information to the President. According to Giorgi Margvelashvili electoral processes is underway without any significant violations. “I promised to the representatives of nongovernmental sector to take into consideration their recommendations, we also discussed violations detected in the course of the local elections. I have an impression that the violations are not complex and too frequent” – stated Giorgi Margvelashvili.  

 

The president of Georgia called the Prosecutor’s Office to investigate timely the facts of withdrawal of the candidates and mentioned that this is essential for conducting fair and democratic elections.

 

“I want to call the Prosecutor’s Office to investigate these facts timely, since this is the biggest concern in electoral process” – mentioned the President. According to Giorgi Margvelashvil, it was agreed during the meeting that the standards used for assessment of electoral process will be focused on improvement in future.

 

The President promised to the NGO representatives that the meetings on electoral issues will be continued after the local elections.
