Appeal of Civil Organizations to the Parliament of Georgia

We civil organizations come up with the requirement for establishment of working group for improvement of electoral environment and   full harmonization of the legislation with international standards. The members of parliament and Government well as other stakeholders (political parties, international and domestic observing organizations, electoral administration) shall actively participate in the work of mentioned group.

Experience clearly demonstrated the need for improving electoral environment (electoral system, the rule for forming electoral administration, funding political parties and so on). Improvement in this field requires open discussions and consensus.

It is well known that changes to electoral legislation can be made one year prior the elections, besides these changes should be respectively reflected in the Constitution of the country, consequently it is important to establish the working group in autumn of 2014.

We think that improvement of electoral environment is possible only with engagement of all stakeholders. With this regard technical expertise of IFES will be valuable and ensure constructive environment for implementation of respective activities.

From our side we are ready to participate actively in work of the group, for improvement of above mentioned legislation and practice.
