A meeting of Interagency Commission for Free and Fair Elections led by the Minister of Justice, Tea Tsulukiani, was organized in the House of justice. The session was attended by the members of the Commission, representatives of qualified election subjects, other political parties and electoral blocs, local and international observing organizations, and CEC. At the meeting Marina Bendeliani, the Deputy Chairperson of CDD, was presented.
Interagency Commission for Free and Fair Elections has assessed the process of the by-elections. The problems occurred during the By-elections of the Parliament and local self-government representative body – Sakrebulos on 31 October 2015 were discussed, including the fact of Ujarma, at the Special Electoral District in Mukhrovani. By the initiative of the Chairman, the commission adopted a recommendation, according to which amendments regarding the special precincts will be considered in the legislation. In particular, a special working group will be created, which will work on this initiative. The group will be supervised by Besik Loladze, Deputy Minister of Defense (member of the Interagency Commission for Free and Fair Elections). Representatives of Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Corrections, Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Justice, Georgian Young Lawyers Association, "Fair Elections", Public Defender’s office, as well as MPs from the parliament will be the members of the commission.
The first meeting of Interagency Commission for Free and Fair Elections was held on September 15. Interagency Commission for Free and Fair Elections for the By-Elections of October 31 was created by order of the Minister of Justice on September 1. Its goal is to prevent contravention of Election Legislation and to react on the procedural violations by the public servants during the Parliament and the Sakrebulo By-Elections in 2015, which will enable the environment for free and fair elections.
